Red Yeast Rice is a unique natural product native to China that's been used in Asian traditional medical systems since approximately 800 A.D. It is produced by the fermentation of red yeast (Monascus purpureus) with white rice.

Red Yeast Rice Extract contains a number of cholesterol-lowering compounds known as statins, among them lovastatin, the same active ingredient that's in Mevacor. Other red yeast compounds are similar to those in other cholesterol medications, such as Lipitor (atorvastatin) and Zocor (simvastatin).

Consult a doctor before use if you have or have had kidney or liver disease, muscle disorders, or are taking prescription drugs. Discontinue use and consult your doctor if rash, headaches, muscle weakness or pain, fever, heartburn, flatulence or dizziness occur.

Direction: As a dietary supplement, take two (2) capsules once or twice daily, preferably with a meal. Do not exceed four (4) capsules in a 24 hour period.
