You want to get the most out of what you eat, so we set out to create the best quality wild blueberry powder possible. Wild blueberries are somewhat different than the cultivated blueberries usually sold in grocery stores which are of the highbush variety, Vaccinium corymbosum. The wild blueberry is of the lowbush variety, Vaccinium angustifolium, and is much smaller in size. Like most fruits, the majority of nutrients in a blueberry are found in the skin and because wild blueberries are small in size, the skin to fruit ratio is higher than cultivated blueberries. This is one of the main reasons wild blueberries have a higher concentration of nutrients, such as anthocyanins, when measured next to the standard blueberries typically found in grocery stores.

Our wild blueberry powder is great for smoothies, juice, and whatever else you can come up with! Our powder starts as organic wild blueberries grown in Canada. The whole berry is freeze-dried to lock in the maximum amount of nutrition, and is then ground into a powder. Our powder is 100% pure with zero additives.

Tips for evaluating the quality of a wild blueberry powder:

Start with the Taste and smell - A wild blueberry powder should taste and smell like wild blueberries. Our powder is made by freeze-drying fresh wild blueberries and grinding them into a powder. It has a very fresh taste and scent. If a wild blueberry powder does not have a strong blueberry taste or smell it has likely be diluted with some sort of filler (such as maltodextrin). Our powder is 100% pure.
Color - Wild blueberry powder should be a deep purple color, just like fresh wild blueberries. If it is more light purple, it has probably had some sort of carrier (like maltodextrin) added to it. Our product is freeze-dried to preserve the maximum amount of nutrients including the anthocyanins (the purple pigment) making our powder a deep purple color. If it is more brown/black than purple it was probably dried through a heat process that destroys some of the anthocyanins (the same way a grape turns into a brown raisin when it is dried).

Other things to consider - Lastly, when evaluating the quality of a wild blueberry powder it is important to understand how and where the product was grown. Was it grown using Organic farming practices and is it Organic? Was it grown in good quality soil, or was it grown in highly polluted areas (such as China where heavy metals such as lead can be a major concern). We source our wild blueberries from Organic farms in Canada, then we freeze-dry them in the USA.
