How Berberine Can Help Reduce Arterial Plaque: Latest Study Reveals

Berberine hydrochloride is a natural product used in Chinese medicine for 3000 years that has been shown to improve cardiometabolic health, improve insulin sensitivity, and treat atherosclerosis.

A new study has found that berberine hydrochloride shrinks arterial plaque by 3.8% over the course of 16 weeks by down-regulating the choline tmao production pathway and gut bacteria.

Trimethylamine oxide (TMAO) is a metabolite made by pathogenic gut bacteria that can initiate the process known as atherosclerosis.

Berberine hydrochloride improves the ecology of the gut microbiome and gut bacteria, working similar to metformin but also has additional benefits.

The study had a control group where patients were on classically prescribed medications for the treatment of heart disease and berberine led to a 3.8% reduction in plaque with a dose of 500 milligrams twice a day.
